CANADA SUMMER JOBS
February 12, 2016

Dear Employers and Community of Sault Ste. Marie,

I am very pleased to share with you that the Federal Government has increased its investment in the Canada Summer Jobs Program!

This is excellent news for employers that provide important community services, and great news for our students that are counting on summer employment and are interested in work experiences in Sault Ste. Marie. The application period is now open and applications will be accepted until February 26, 2016. Our summer season is now only 4 months away!

The Canada Summer Jobs initiative provides funding to not-for-profit organizations, public-sector employers and small businesses with 50 or fewer employees to create summer job opportunities for young people aged 15 to 30 years who are full-time students intending to return to their studies in the next school year.

Wage subsidies are available for full time summer jobs (30 – 40 hours per week), and the duration of the job must be between six and sixteen weeks. Not-for-profit employers are eligible to receive funding for up to 100% of the provincial or territorial minimum hourly wage. Public and private sector employers are eligible to receive funding for up to 50% of the provincial or territorial minimum hourly wage.

I strongly encourage you to go to www.servicecanada.gc.ca/csj for more information about eligibility and the assessment process, to download the pdf applicant guide, and to access the online application form.

In the meantime, if you have any comments, questions, or concerns please do not hesitate to contact my office. You can email us at [email protected] or call (705) 941-2900.

Sincerely,

Terry Sheehan
