Canada Child Benefit Provides 9 out of 10 Families More Support for Children

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(Ottawa, ON) Monday, July 11, 2016 – Today, Member of Parliament, Terry Sheehan, released the following statement on improvements to the Canada Child Benefit (CCB):

“I’m happy with the changes to the CCB, which will put more money in the pockets of Canadian families. Children deserve the strongest possible start in life and it’s important that they have the proper resources to succeed.

“Through the new program 9 out of 10 families will receive more than they did before. Our program is tax-free, and tied to income so that families that need the most help – like single parent families and low-income families – will receive greater support.

“Far too many middle class families struggle to get ahead and as the cost of living continues to rise, families are finding it more difficult to keep up. I believe that a strong economy starts with a strong middle class. Increasing the CCB is great first step to bring equality to low and middle income families.”
