March 14, 2018

The Prime Minister visited the Sault today to demonstrate his ongoing support and commitment for the Canadian steel industry.

Terry and the Prime Minister began their day at Gate 2 of Essar Steel Algoma, where the Prime Minister was able to speak directly with workers as they arrived for their shift.

“It was a great opportunity to say hi to some folks on the way in to starting their shift…I got to thank them for all the hard work they’ve done and reassure them we will continue to have their backs, through all these challenges, the Canadian government stands with them.” Prime Minister Justin Trudeau

The Prime Minister took time to talk with local media about his visit.  Mr. Trudeau spoke with John Murtha, of Rogers Radio’s Kiss 100.5, early this morning and with SooToday’s James Hopkin, while onsite at Essar Steel Algoma.  Steel, NAFTA and the future for Sault Ste. Marie were discussed.

“I have to thank…Terry Sheehan our MP, I think he might have had something to do with us getting this opportunity, …and I thank him and I thank you.” John Murtha

“Terry is a great guy.  He’s always pushing for more for the Sault and I’m happy to oblige.  It’s great to be here, he’s always someone talking about how important steel is, how important the Sault is and this all worked out well, it’s great to see him again.”  Prime Minister Justin Trudeau

“Thank you Mr. Prime Minister, I cannot stress enough how important this visit is, I have to underline and highlight how quick you were to stand up for steel…this has been all hands on deck in Sault Ste. Marie-we’ve been working with labour, we’ve been working with the Chamber [of Commerce], we’ve been working with municipal government, with producers, stakeholders and the province as well.”                                                                                                                                                                 Terry Sheehan
