The Prime Minister visited the Sault today to demonstrate his ongoing support and commitment for the Canadian steel industry.
Terry and the Prime Minister began their day at Gate 2 of Essar Steel Algoma, where the Prime Minister was able to speak directly with workers as they arrived for their shift.
“It was a great opportunity to say hi to some folks on the way in to starting their shift…I got to thank them for all the hard work they’ve done and reassure them we will continue to have their backs, through all these challenges, the Canadian government stands with them.” Prime Minister Justin Trudeau

The Prime Minister took time to talk with local media about his visit. Mr. Trudeau spoke with John Murtha, of Rogers Radio’s Kiss 100.5, early this morning and with SooToday’s James Hopkin, while onsite at Essar Steel Algoma. Steel, NAFTA and the future for Sault Ste. Marie were discussed.

Terry and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau met with representatives from all 3 levels of government, local steel industry leaders and stakeholders, for a roundtable discussion.
“Thank you Mr. Prime Minister, I cannot stress enough how important this visit is, I have to underline and highlight how quick you were to stand up for steel…this has been all hands on deck in Sault Ste. Marie-we’ve been working with labour, we’ve been working with the Chamber [of Commerce], we’ve been working with municipal government, with producers, stakeholders and the province as well.” Terry Sheehan
