TERRY SHEEHAN ANNOUNCES FEDERAL FUNDING FOR FALL RENDEZVOUS AT THE ERMATINGER OLD STONE HOUSE

Friday, Aug. 2, 2019 – Sault Ste. Marie, ON — MP Terry Sheehan is announcing federal funding of $15,800 in support of the Fall Rendezvous, an event produced the Friends of the Ermatinger-Clergue National Historic Site in Sault Ste. Marie.

MP Sheehan said, “The Fall Rendezvous is a wonderful celebration of our community’s shared heritage and a terrific opportunity to teach our children about our local and national history in a delightful way. This festive serves as a reminder to Saultites and a gift to our newcomers that our federal government is eager to support.”

Kathy Fisher, curator of the site said, “We are very thankful for the contribution by our Canadian government in support of this annual festival. We are pleased to receive the great news of funding through the Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage program, Ministry of Heritage and Multiculturalism. The funding will allow the ‘Friends of’ to produce the “FALL RENDEZVOUS” – a recurring festival. This festival presents the work of local artists, artisans or heritage performers – bringing history to life through a focus on the First Nation and Métis cultures.”

The four-day festival, that runs from Thursday, Sept. 19 to Sunday, Sept. 22, 2019, will engage local citizens and visitors in the presentation of stories of our local history through interaction with re-enactors, actors, and artisans. Presentations will include Indigenous life and culture, women, voyageurs, Coureur du Bois, Fur Trade, War of 1812, and the Regiment. This year, the story of the 200 years of the HBC Powder Magazine (base of the Clergue Blockhouse) will be commemorated.

The Fall Rendezvous funding will also provide an opportunity for the Sault’s Grade 7 students to attend and experience this event, bringing history to life for approximately 1,500 students.
