Please find below a statement from Terry Sheehan, Member of Parliament for Sault Ste. Marie, regarding the recent announcement from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on back-to-school support for Canadian families and students. You can find the original press release here: https://pm.gc.ca/en/news/news-releases/2020/08/26/prime-minister-announces-support-safe-return-school
“Over the past few months, I've heard from parents, families, and students about their concerns on the restart of schools. We all want our students to get a top-quality Canadian education, and we also understand the need to keep our kids safe and healthy.
That's why I'm delighted with this announcement by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and our government. The Safe Return to Class Fund will help our kids stay safe upon returning to school while lifting some of the burden from parents' shoulders. This includes support for provinces to adapt learning spaces, improve air ventilation, and purchase masks and sanitizer for students.
As a former school trustee, I know how important these resources will be for our schools, our kids, parents, teachers and school staff all across Canada. I wish students from the Algoma District School Board, the Huron-Superior Catholic District School Board, le Conseil scolaire public du Grand Nord de l'Ontario, et le Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon the very best this year, and I hope the support from our government makes back-to-school a little easier”
