MP Terry Sheehan pleased Garden River First Nation to receive over $2M from the Federal Government for Clean Water project

Garden River First Nation is receiving over $2 million in Federal Funds from the Green Infrastructure funding stream through Infrastructure Canada, for assistance in replacing one of the original waterlines in the community.

 The Government of Canada is investing over $69.5 million to support 37 clean water, wastewater and storm water projects in Ontario. These investments will ensure access to safe, drinkable water and better environmental protection for First Nation communities across Ontario.

 “I want to thank Chief Rickard and Council for their hard work advocating for this project on behalf of Garden River First Nation.  The Government of Canada is moving forward with our commitment to work together with First Nation communities in a nation to nation way, to produce results.  I am pleased that this collaboration is going to rectify a very long-standing water infrastructure issue.”

 Chief Rickard stated that this funding announcement will upgrade and modernize an old water system in Garden River First Nation.

 “This announcement is another positive yet modest step of the Liberal Government to honor its commitment to end the many boil water advisories across the Nation by investing in important projects like this one said Chief Rickard.

Ensuring that our citizens have access to clean and safe drinking water is one of our top priorities as a First Nation Government.”
