Wage Subsidy and Other Federal Supports Extended Until October 23rd

News release

(Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario—July 30, 2021)

Today, Member of Parliament for Sault Ste Marie and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister responsible for FedNor, Terry Sheehan, toured the Canadian Bushplane Heritage Centre upon its reopening, after the lifting of provincial regulations related to the pandemic.

MP Sheehan toured the Bushplane Museum, including the Entomica Insectarium now located onsite and chatted with executive director Dan Ingram who explained how the wage subsidy, and the RRRF investments had supported the Bushplane Museum during the pandemic. MP Sheehan said the Federal Government and FedNor will continue to provide meaningful opportunities for the community, Northern Ontario, and Canada.

Today, Minister Freeland announced that the Wage Subsidy along with other Federal Supports will be extended until Oct. 23, 2021. See web page Government extends COVID-19 benefits and business supports to support stronger economic recovery  - Canada.ca .

MP Sheehan also spoke to Ingram and President/Executive Director of Entomica John Dedes about new federal supports contained in Budget 2021.

In March 2020, tourism came to a screeching halt as public safety measures kept most Canadians home and international borders closed. Now that vaccination efforts are paying off and declining case rates are allowing the easing of restrictions, tourism businesses and organizations from coast to coast to coast can look to the future.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, the Government of Canada has supported Canadians, workers, and business through the wage subsidy, rent relief, Canada Emergency Bank Account, Canada Emergency Recovery Benefit, Lockdown support, the Regional Relief and Recovery fund (RRRF), and more. Budget 2021 committed additional investments of more than $1 billion to help the tourism sector prepare to welcome domestic travellers and to reposition Canada as a world-class destination.

MP Sheehan encourages all to come on down to the Bushplane Museum and participate in summer programs or take a tour. Visit https://www.bushplane.com/  and the Entomica Insectarium www.facebook.com/entomica for more information on programming, and activities.

Quotes:

“The Bushplane Museum is an exciting opportunity to learn, experience, and participate in activities surrounding bushplanes, wildfires, and Northern Ontario forestry. This museum is unique to our community and is a fantastic experience for all. I am was pleased to hear how the RRRF and the wage subsidy that we just extended to October 23rd, has been supporting the museum and its workers. The Federal Government and FedNor are proud to support the museum and will continue to support our community in the future. I encourage everyone to come on down and participate in the museum’s activities and programming.”

“The Canadian Bushplane Heritage Centre staff and volunteers are very thankful for the support of the Federal government and local MP Terry Sheehan. The revenue through the RRRF and Wage Subsidy program offset the loss in revenue from all of our core revenue streams as a result of the lengthy closures, allowed us to keep our staff employed and helped us cover our fixed operating costs, which otherwise would have been very difficult. “

--Dan Ingram, Executive Director, Canadian Bushplane Heritage Centre
